Landis was born in Chicago, Illinois on August 3, 1950, to parents Shirley Levine and Marshall Landis. Throughout most of his childhood years, he grew up in California.

John Landis won the Primetime Emmy Award for ‘Mr. Warmth: The Don Rickles Project’ in 2008. He has also garnered the Saturn Award nomination.

Additionally, he won the Golden Unicorn for Career Achievement Award at the Amiens International Film Festival in 2015. All in all, he has 9 wins and 15 nominations to his name to date.
